COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Barring a challenge from Democratic Party or write-in candidates, Fred Blankenship will take over as Branch County Sheriff on January 1, 2025 after he won the Republican Primary on Tuesday.
Blankenship said it was a long campaign.
Blankenship felt they ran a clean campaign.
Blankenship wants the Sheriff’s deputies to get cameras.
He said they have gotten a quote from a vendor for cameras and are hoping to get two other quotes. Blankenship said they want to have their ducks in a row before approaching County Commissioners.
He added they need to keep the deputies they have before they can move forward with a night patrol. Blankenship plans to talk with County Commissioners about getting higher wages and better benefits for deputies in order to keep them with the department.
Blankenship also needs to decide in the near future who will be his Undersheriff.
