COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Sheriff’s Department Posse has ridden off into the sunset.
Sheriff John Pollack told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that the posse has been disbanded as of last Saturday, July 1, 2017 due to liability issues concerning the riders and horses.
Pollack said Captain Tim Sherman and three other posse members will be reassigned to other duties and that the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department Posse would be available if needed.
The Sheriff said the liability issue at the center of the posse being disbanded had nothing to do with the fatal accident involving posse member Michael Winter in May 2016.
