THREE RIVERS, MI (WTVB) – A Three Rivers man with three prior Operating While Under the Influence arrests dating back to 2000 was lodged in the St. Joseph County Jail following an accident late Wednesday afternoon.
The Michigan State Police reports the two car crash took place on U.S. 131 and North Main Street in Three Rivers at about 5:00 p.m. when the suspect turned his 2000 GMC mini-van left and in front of a south bound 2015 Ford Explorer. The Explorer was being driven by a 55 year old woman from Three Rivers.
Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries. An off -duty State Police Detective was one of the first on scene to help render assistance to the female driver. She was later taken to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo. The male suspect driver was treated at the scene.
The 60 year old male driver was arrested for Felony Operating While Under the Influence. Troopers report the use of prescription pain medication may have been a factor in the crash.
Names are being withheld at this time pending court action. The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and Three Rivers Fire / EMS assisted at the scene.
