COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team dropped their first game of the year Wednesday, losing at home to Detroit Country Day 3-2.
The Cardinals opened the scoring with 9:19 to play in the first half on a goal from Dawood Gasby, assisted by Nasser Abdulla.
Country Day rallied back, scoring three goals, including a penalty kick, in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Coldwater narrowed the margin with a penalty kick from Austin Accardi with 14 seconds left in the game.
Franky Ramos made nine saves in goal as Detroit Country Day outshot Coldwater 14-7 and improved their record to 4-1. Last year they advance to the Division 3 state title game before losing to Hudsonville Unity Christian.
The Cardinals are now 1-1 on the season and will face East Grand Rapids in the first round of the Panther Cup at Dewitt High School Saturday.
