COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors will be presented with the utility’s proposed exit strategy from Skitter, Incorporated during their meeting on Wednesday night.
The high definition cable television service has been available to customers of the CBPU since January of 2018.
Skitter, Incorporated, has provided cable TV service through independent telecommunications companies.
But trends over the last five years have shown more customers are turning to fiber internet.
According to the CBPU, there were 1,606 fiber internet customers in July compared to 638 cable internet customers. That’s almost a flip-flop of the numbers from July of 2020 when there were 1,670 cable internet customers and only 40 fiber internet customers.
The total number of internet customers has grown in the last five years from 1,710 in 2020 to 2,244 this year while the number of TV customers has dropped from 695 five years ago to 397 this year.
The exit strategy calls for the Customer Service department to no longer schedule Skitter, Absolute & Acclaim TV installations as of October 1.
The CBPU also plans to not renew the Skitter, Absolute & Acclaim TV contract next June and any remaining customers will be disconnected.
