BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The lack of rain over the last few weeks has led to the southern parts of Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties near the state line to be listed as “abnormally dry” according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Abnormally dry and moderate drought conditions are being reported throughout northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
The M.S.U. Extension Service Weather station at the Bloom Diary Farm west of Coldwater has measured just 71-hundreths of an inch of rain since August 18 while just over an inch of rain (1.07) has fallen at that location since August 7.
The dry conditions have led many area farmers to run their irrigation systems after a somewhat soggy spring and summer.
Over seven inches of rain (7.12) was measured by the weather station during the month of July. That follows rainfall totals of 3.98 inches in June and 4.63 inches in May.
