BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – One of the driest periods in the last two decades is expected to last for at least another week.
The National Weather Service forecast for the next week in Branch County shows no rain whatsoever through at least Sunday.
Except for a few clouds on Wednesday, sunshine is expected every day through the weekend. Daytime highs as summer officially winds down will stay in the 80s which is almost ten degrees above average.
Coldwater’s average high for the middle of September is in the low 70s.
The M.S.U. Extension Service weather station at the Bloom Dairy Farm measured 1.63 inches of rain on August 6 which was the third day of the Branch County Fair.
That particular weather station has only recorded 1.07 inches of rain during the last 41 days. The last measurable rainfall was five-hundredths of an inch on September 6.
Drought conditions are expected to worsen with the lack of rainfall. The U.S. Drought Monitor shows moderate drought conditions in Hillsdale County near the Ohio state line.
Abnormally dry conditions are being reported in the southern parts of Branch, Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties.
Moderate drought conditions have been reported in most of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
