COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County now has the most COVID-19 related deaths of the three counties in the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency jurisdiction.
The agency reported another eight deaths on Thursday which brought Branch County’s death toll up to 38. Officials say 33 of the deaths have taken place since October 1 as statistics indicate Branch County has turned into one of the COVID-19 hot spots in recent weeks.
Branch County had two COVID-19 related deaths in the first weeks of the pandemic last spring. No deaths were reported between mid April and late August. There were three deaths from late August until the first of October.
Hillsdale County has reported 37 deaths so far while there have been 35 COVID-19 related deaths in St. Joseph County.
Thursday’s report from the Community Health Agency show 25 new cases in Branch County which brings the total number of cases since March up to 2,207.
Meanwhile, 53 new cases were reported in Hillsdale County and 36 new cases were reported in St. Joseph County.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services reported on Thursday the statewide death toll has reached 9,580 while over 380,000 Michigan residents have tested positive for the virus.
