COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team came up short in their bid for a second straight Interstate 8 Conference championship, falling to Marshall 1-0 Tuesday.
The lone goal of the game came for the Redhawks with 6:39 to play on a header by Brandon Baker off a corner kick. The Cardinals had several scoring opportunities in the last five minutes of the game but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Marshall outshot Coldwater 10-8 in the largely defensive battle, with Franky Ramos making six saves in goal.
With the win, Marshall finished the conference season at 5-0-1, while the Cardinals closed out at 5-1. Coldwater is now 10-6-1 overall, and will host Battle Creek Lakeview for Senior Night Thursday before closing out the regular season at Mattawan Saturday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Marshall 6-0.
