UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – “The Shield” will stay in Union City for another year. For the second straight week, the Union City Chargers had to rally from a halftime deficit as they defeated the Bronson Vikings 36-8 in the Chargers’ Homecoming game at Alumni Field.
Bronson led 8-6 at halftime thanks to a six yard touchdown by Kameron Brackett and a two point conversion by Jace Hoard.
Brendan Labar’s three yard touchdown were the only points for the Chargers in the first half. It looked like the Chargers scored right before halftime but a 64-yard touchdown by Rick Austin was called back due to an inadvertent whistle.
It was all Union City in the second half. The Chargers got third quarter touchdowns from Dylan McDonald from 10 yards out and from quarterback Eli Payne on a one yard sneak.
Labar’s second and third touchdowns of the night from one and seven yards in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.
McDonald finished with 141 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Labar also carried the ball 20 times for 96 yards.
Bronson quarterback Spencer Losinski passed for 151 yards. Benjamin Stevens had five catches for 67 yards. Brackett had three catches for 74 yards and was two-for-two in the air for 43 yards.
Union City had 322 yards of total offense including 280 yards on the ground. Bronson had 191 yards of total offense.
Union City is 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big 8 Conference. Bronson drops to 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the Big 8.
Quincy lost their final home game of the season as they were beaten by Stockbridge 28-7. Freshman Noah Kelley had a big night with 161 all purpose yards and a touchdown on 12 total touches. Noah Rufenacht added 68 yards receiving.
Defensively, Ethan Pearson had another big night, racking up 15 tackles. Kaden Cutler made his presence felt as well with 11 tackles. Quincy is now 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the Big 8.)
