COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Community Health Center of Branch County is looking for a change in status as it continues the process of selling to a Toledo based firm.
CHC President and Chief Executive Office Randy DeGroot told the Branch County Board of Commissioners during their work session Thursday that legislation is being pursued in Lansing that would allow for the conversion of the hospital from a municipal health facility corporation to a non-profit organization.
In addition, the takeover by Promedica Medical would be pushed back three months to January 1, 2018.
DeGroot said the legislation was introduced by State Senator Mike Shirkey Wednesday and it will go to a committee next week.
He said this is being pursued to make the transition as seamless as possible.
DeGroot said converting to a non-profit hospital will allow essentially them to avoid creating a new entity. He added It will also save time and effort and prevent a possible 90 to 120 day cash flow issue.
For that to happen, the State has to approve. Approval must also be granted by the County Commissioners as well as the boards for both Promedica and CHC..
