COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Planning Commission recommended to the City Council on Monday night to eliminate marijuana grow establishments from the special land use approval process for property zoned industrial within the city.
There have been discussions about this step being taken over the last two years. The action came after a scheduled public hearing in which there were no public comments.
Grower and excess grower licenses are presently permitted in D-2 Heavy Industrial zoned areas with special land use approval. Special land use approval is also needed for microbusinesses to operate in areas zoned C-4 General Business.
Planning Commission member Jeff Budd and Mayor Tom Kramer pointed out there have not been any applications for a microbusiness.
After further discussion, Budd clarified his original motion.
Four special land use requests have been approved since May of 2021 but only Craft Leaf LLC at 211 West Garfield has been licensed by the State of Michigan and the City of Coldwater.
City Attorney Amanda O’Boyle says Craft Leaf would not be affected by the proposed changes.
