COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After the City of Coldwater revised zoning ordinances last October that would allow limited use of electronic signs in the central business district, a new LED sign for the Tibbits Opera House is ready to be displayed.
Tibbits Executive Director Christine Delaney told the Coldwater Downtown Develoopment Authority Board Wednesday the sign is the second one they received, since the first one was damaged when it arrived and Delaney had to refuse it.
She hopes the new sign will be up and running by next week.
The sign will promote upcoming shows and events at the Tibbits but it had to be dealt with by many levels of city governmental units for 10 months before the ordinances were revised last fall.
The size of electronic signs in the downtown area will be limited to 18 square feet. They will be no taller than six feet and the signs have to to be monument style.
There are provisions in current city ordinances that regulate brightness and other visible distractions.
