OKEMOS, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals lost a non-conference contest at Okemos 21-14.
The first score of the game came with 8:42 left in the second quarter, on a 2-yard run from the Wolves’ Alejandro Urrea. The Cardinals answered with 2:31 left in the half, when Dracyn Foster threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Dayton Ennis. The game was tied 7-7 at the half.
Okemos took the lead for good on the opening drive of the second half, which was capped off by a 1-yard run from Nathan Precise. The Wolves added an insurance TD in the fourth quarter, when Blake Burke connected with Xavier Ford from 7 yards out. Foster brought Coldwater back to within a score with 2:15 left on a 7-yard QB keeper. The Cardinals attempted an onside kick that was recovered by the Wolves, but would get the ball back on an Okemos fumble recovered by Logan Smiertka with 1:18 left. Coldwater drove to the Okemos 1-yard line with 12 seconds remaining, but was pushed back on successive plays before time expired.
Foster would finish 11-of-23 for 147 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions while also rushing for a net gain of 7 yards and a score. Evan Lewis had 4 receptions for 67 yards, Dayton Ennis had 4 catches for 40 yards, and Kendall Austin added 2 receptions for 33 yards to go with 9 carries for 47 yards. Drew Ennis had 8 carries for 35 yards. Jackson Reilly paced the defense with 14 tackles, while Bennett McDonald had 9 tackles.
With the loss, the Cardinals fell to 3-4 overall. They return to Interstate 8 play next week at Hastings. Okemos improved to 2-5, assuring the program their best finish in five years after snapping a 41-game losing streak earlier this season. The Wolves travel to Division 3 top-ranked DeWitt next week.

Union City and Springport were both undefeated and tied atop the Big 8 standings entering their showdown hosted by the Spartans. The Chargers emerged with at least a share of their third straight league title following a 45-21 win to improve to 6-0 in the Big 8, 7-0 overall.
Union City can clinch the outright Big 8 championship next week against Quincy at Alumni Field.
Springport falls to 5-1 in the Big 8, 6-1 overall, and will host Bronson next week.
In 8-player football, Tekonsha lost their Homecoming game to North Adams-Jerome 50-26.
