COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – None of the Branch County high school baseball and softball teams made it out of the district round of the M.H.S.A.A. tournaments this season.
Coldwater hosted the Division Two districts in both sports but the home field advantage did not help the Cardinal squads on Saturday. The Cardinal baseball team lost to Harper Creek 6-2 in the finals while the softball team was beaten in the semifinals by Olivet 5-3.
Carly Duke and Seairah Bradley both had two hits for the Coldwater softball team against Olivet as the Cardinals finished 23-13.
Coldwater’s baseball team advanced to the district finals with a 4-2 win over Olivet. Coldwater snapped a 2-2 tie in the last of the fifth thanks to RBI doubles by Bryce Lafferty and Brent Smoker. Alex Everitt got the victory in relief. Bryce Barringer had two hits in the district final against Harper Creek as Coldwater finished 19-17.
Both Bronson teams made it to the Division Three District Finals in Union City. The 12th ranked baseball team lost to fourth ranked Homer 1-0 while the softball team was beaten by Jonesville 7-2.
The Bronson baseball team advanced to the district finals with a 2-1 win over Union City. Brett Sikorski was the winning pitcher. Ethan Cossairt earned the save. Hudson Wotta and Kameron Haviland drove in the Bronson runs.
Cossairt went the distance against Homer allowing one run and five hits. Bronson had their chances but could not get the big hit at the right time as they stranded 10 runner. The loss to Homer left the Vikings with a final record of 29-9.
The Bronson softball team advanced to the finals with a 12-6 victory over Union City. Adyson Lasky was the winning pitcher. Kiana Mayer belted a home run. She along with Kiera Lasky, Payton Robinson and Allie Sikorski all had two hits. Autumn Carpenter had four hits and three RBI’s for the Chargers. Sikorski also had two hits in the title game against Jonesville as the Vikings finished 21-15.
