David L. Pierce, 72, of Coldwater went home to Heaven Monday, October 14, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio.
The funeral service will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Coldwater with Pastor Dan Erwin and Pastor Jim Erwin from Bethel Gilead Church officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater. Cremation will follow the service.
Dave was born March 17,1952 in Coldwater to George and Virginia (Smith) Pierce. He married Karen R. Janik December 1, 1973 in Quincy, MI.
Dave graduated from Coldwater High School in 1970 and obtained an associate degree in business from Kellogg Community College in 1976 while working for the former Branch County Federal Savings and Loan.
In 1982, Dave and Karen felt the Lord calling them to prepare for full-time ministry, so they moved their family to Chicago, IL so Dave could attend Moody Bible Institute. He graduated in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Pastoral Studies.
After pastoring churches in Chicago, IL and Franksville, WI, the Pierce family returned to Coldwater in 1993 where Dave went into real estate for several years. The call to return to pastoral ministry came in 2006, when he became the senior pastor at First Baptist Church of Coldwater, where he ministered faithfully until his retirement in 2022.
During his years in Coldwater, Dave served his community as a member of the Coldwater Noon Rotary Club, which he joined in 1978 and was the proud recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 2005. He was a gifted musician, using his talents as part of the worship team at church or to entertain the community as his alter-ego Blind Mellon (with his brother Stevie Ray Chris).
Of all the things Dave did throughout his life, his greatest joy was being a husband, a dad, and Papa Dave to his seven grandchildren. He adored his family, as they did him.
Dave is survived by his wife Karen; his daughters Amanda (Jared) Jones of Vidalia, GA, Mila Reed of Columbus, OH, and Lauren Griego of Nashville, TN; his siblings Carol (Kevin) Ogles of Burlington, NC, Chris (Sue) Pierce of Coldwater; his grandchildren Luke (Jennifer) Jones, Annaliese (Kyle Rohrbacher) Jones, Adam Jones, Samuel Jones, Tessa Jones, Carter Reed, Paislee Reed and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Paul Anderson Youth Home in Vidalia, GA.
