COLDWATER. MI (WTVB) – A recent online survey conducted by the Coldwater Community Schools on future needs in the district found that 90 percent of the respondents think the district is in need of improvements to some or all of its facilities.
There were 483 respondents to the survey. Of those who took the survey, 55 percent supported the closing of Lakeland Elementary School and replacing it with a new fourth and fifth grade building while 29 percent were against it and 16 percent were undecided.
The closing has been discussed in a series of community forums including one which was held Thursday night at Lakeland Elementary.
Superintendent Terry Boguth said about 35 persons attended.
The forum included information on a proposed $29 million bond resolution and millage request which is expected to go before voters in November 2017, as well as tours of the school building, which opened in 1956.
