QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Community Schools Board of Education appointed a veteran Branch County educator to serve as an Interim Assistant Superintendent last Friday night following a closed session.
Martin Chard was named to the position after Superintendent Craig Artist and high school principal David Spalding were placed on paid administrative leave May 13, 2017.
The action was taken against Artist and Spalding after they were accused of ignoring information concerning former teacher Jason Ferrell who is now facing criminal sexual misconduct charges in Branch and Calhoun Counties. The Branch County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an investigation into the matter.
Chard taught and was a coach in the Quincy School District for 28 years. He has also served as a principal and superintendent in Union City.
This is the second time Chard has come out of retirement to help out a local district. He was previously an interim superintendent in Tekonsha.
