COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Acting upon a recommendation from Iformation Techonology Director Pat Pool, the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities adopted a cyber security program strategy during their meeting Tuesday.
Pool developed the plan, which was in response to the growth and sophistication of cybercrime in recent years. It will be a joint program covering both the City and the Coldwater BPU. Pool says it will consist of multiple policies, procedures and strategies.
The program supersedes all policies, resolutions and ordinances in regards to internet use and cyber security.
While techniques will be devised and implemented, the policy also calls for all city and BPU employees to be educated about IT risks, vulnerabilities and protection requirements.
A power point presentation during Tuesday’s meeting showed there has been a 40 percent increase in reported data breaches in just the last couple of years.
