COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Memorial Day weekend had an unpleasant and inconvenient start in Coldwater for customers at the Red Roof Inn. The motel on South Willowbrook Road was ordered to be evacuated after midnight early Saturday morning following the discovery of a meth lab in the building.
A 52-year old suspect from Alabama was taken into custody and remains lodged at the Branch County jail with his bond set at $100,000.
Motel customers had to leave all of their belongings in their rooms and their cars behind as well and according to 911 Central Dispatch were transported by the Branch Area Transportation Authority and bussed to other motels in the Coldwater area to spend the night.
The suspect was arraigned yesterday in Branch County District Court on multiple charges including 2 counts of operating and maintaining a meth lab. He’s scheduled for a probable cause hearing June 6, 2017 with a preliminary exam set for June 13.
Coldwater City Police are handling the case, although no news release has been issued in connection with their investigation.
