ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A 27-year-old Kalamazoo woman is facing four felony charges in Steuben County after an alleged theft from the Angola Meijer store led to a chase that ended in Branch County on Saturday night.
Journey Buchanan has been charged with Battery with Bodily Injury to a Public Safety Officer, Resisting Law Enforcement using a vehicle, Criminal Recklessness committed with a deadly weapon and Theft of property is between $750 and $50,000.
On line court records indicate she is free after posting a $5,000 surety bond.
The Herald-Republican newspaper in Angola reports that according to court documents, Buchanan and two other women allegedly stole more than $1,700 in goods from the store. Most of the stolen items were alcohol.
The two women with Buchanan were arrested after they tried to make a run for it. Buchanan attempted to flea in her vehicle but an Angola Police officer grabbed a hold of it in an attempt to make her stop.
He fell to the ground and suffered an injury to his arm. A high speed pursuit then took place before it ended with Buchanan’s arrest in Branch County by the Sheriff’s Department.
She was booked at the Branch County Jail on a hold for another agency before being extradited back to Steuben County.
