ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A U.S. Army veteran will start a 422 mile wheelchair ride Saturday at the Angola American Legion post to help raise awareness of military veteran suicides.
Sgt. Joshua Geartz will ride his wheelchair 22 miles a day, because that’s the average number of vets who end their lives every day.
Geartz will be honoring two veteran support organizations: Songwriting With:Soldiers, and Team Red, White & Blue. He plans to end his journey in Niagara Falls July 1, 2017. Geartz was injured by an improvised explosive device in September 2003 and came close to taking his own life in 2014.
