QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Community Schools Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting for Friday night as the controversy centering on a former teachers’ alleged sexual relations with a former student continues.
The meeting will take place at the Jennings Elementary Commons Area starting at 6:00 p.m.
It comes less than two weeks after the board decided to place Superintendent Craig Artist and high school principal David Spalding on administrative leave with pay pending an internal review of their actions concerning the alleged behavior of a former teacher.
Friday’s agenda calls for comments and questions from the audience, followed by a written statement to be read from board attorney Robert G. Huber.. The board will then go into closed session. They may or may not take formal action afterwards.
The special meeting on the eve of a holiday weekend comes as many in the Quincy community are questioning the conduct of past and present Quincy school administrators about how they managed allegations against former teacher Jason Ferrell.
Ferrell is facing six charges of criminal sexual conduct in Branch County including two first degree counts in connection with alleged incidents involving a former student. He is also facing three CSC counts in Calhoun County. Ferrell was employed by the Quincy School District for 20 years.
