BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) -The Coldwater High girls varsity soccer team came up just short in the Interstate 8 Conference Silver Division championship game Wednesday, falling to Harper Creek 2-1 in the second sudden death overtime period.
The Lady Cardinals scored first with 24 minutes to play in the first half on a Malorie Rzepka goal, assisted by Madison Marsh. Harper Creek tied the game on a goal with 7 minutes to play in the first half.
The two teams remained scoreless for the second half and the first 10 minute overtime period, with Harper Creek scoring the game winner with 4:26 to play in the second overtime.
Audrey Hall had seven saves in goal, as Coldwater closed out the regular season at 4-10-3 and 1-6-2 in the Interstate 8 Conference. They will open up the postseason with a district quarterfinal game at Jackson Northwest Tuesday,
The Coldwater JV team closed out their season on a winning note, beating Harper Creek 5-0. Elise Leggett had two goals and one assist. Nicole Adams, Daisy Martinez, and Madison Fougerousse each scored, with assists for Abby Thatcher and Emily Fagen.
