BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Branch County voters will help select the next 35th District State House Representative on Tuesday.
The district covers Hillsdale and Branch Counties as well as the City of Hudson.
After collecting 52 percent of the vote against Hillsdale Mayor Adam Stockford and Branch County Commissioner Tom Matthew during the Republican Primary in August, Jennifer Wortz is looking to keep the seat in G.O.P. hands against Democrat Don Hicks.
Wortz is a Hillsdale County native. She and her husband own Central Grace Farms. Her family has lived in Branch County for two decades.
Hicks was a government teacher in the Bronson School District for over 30 years. He did not face opposition in the August primary.
Andrew Fink is the current 35th district seat holder but he decided to run for the Michigan Supreme Court.
Fink is running against Kimberly Ann Thomas for an eight year term.
Branch County Circuit Court Judge Bill O’Grady is seeking a partial term on the Michigan Supreme Court against Kyra Harris Bolden.
The Supreme Court races are technically non-partisan but Democrats are backing Thomas and Bolden while Fink and O’Grady are receiving Republican support.
Branch County is part of the 5th Congressional District. Republican Congressman Tim Walberg is seeking his ninth term in Congress.
He will be challenged on Tuesday by Democrat Libbi Urban who is a vice president of a United Steelworkers Union local.
