COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council is scheduled to take action Monday evening on a request from City Manager Keith Baker to convert the basketball court in Parkhurst Park to four pickleball courts.
Pickleball has enjoyed a boom in popularity in recent years.
Baker says in a letter to the Council that the Parkhurst courts are underutilized. They would have be repaved and striped. Nets and fencing would have to be installed as well.
The cost is estimated to be between $21,000 and $24,000. Baker says about $5,000 has already been pledged in private donations.
Council approval is needed for the work since a bid from Excell Paving was over $10,000.
Baker says Parkhurst is desirable because it has existing restrooms, storage availability and room to accommodate the courts. At least two basketball hoops would be maintained.
