Gary L. Howe, 85, of Coldwater passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024 at The Laurels of DeKalb in Butler, IN.
A private family memorial service will be held.

Gary was born February 9, 1939 in Lima, Ohio to O. Raymond & Martha (Beck) Howe. He earned his doctorate from the Illinois School of Optometry in 1968. Gary married Benta Lieng on April 16, 1986 in Bay Minette, AL. She preceded him in death on March 8, 2024.
Gary began his career at Coldwater Optometrics in 1968 with Dr. Wickland. He owned and operated the practice for many years, until his retirement in 2000.
Gary was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church. He served on the Intermediate School Board and the Coldwater School Board, where he was also president for many years. Dr. Howe was active in many various community organizations and events throughout the years.
Gary and Benta loved being snowbirds, spending the winter months in Gulf Shores, AL for many years. Following his retirement, Gary became an avid golfer. Although he knew he wasn’t any good, he loved to play and made many great friends in both Coldwater and Alabama.
Gary was a dedicated family man and an exceptional father.
Gary is survived by his children Cindy (Al) Scharns of Battle Creek, Leslie Lamb of Springfield, Cheryl (Mark) Kellogg of DeWitt, Becky (Larry) Smith of Auburn, IN, Daniel Speaker, Jr. of Union City; his brother Dave (Sally) Howe of Springfield, OH; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his grandson Dakota Smith.
