HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – A Hillsdale County deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop last June was honored on Veterans Day.
Sergeant First Class William “Bill” Butler Junior was posthumously inducted into the Hillsdale County Veterans Hall of Valor during an Awards Ceremony.
Butler was 51-years-old at the time of his death.
He is a decorated Army National Guard veteran.
He was a member for over 20 years in the Guard, serving overseas during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Butler served the Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Office for 12 years.
Hillsdale College hosted Butler’s funeral service in Christ Chapel on July 3. Over 700 law enforcement officers attended his funeral.
