QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – With two Quincy school officials on paid administrative leave, Quincy Middle School Principal Josh Hagerty is helping out with the district’s day-to-day operations.
Hagerty says he was asked by Quincy School Board members last Saturday to help out and get the district through the end of this school year.
The request to Hagerty was made after the board decided to place Superintendent Craig Artist and high school principal David Spalding on administrative leave pending an internal review into how they handled sexual abuse allegations against former teacher Jason Ferrell.
Hagerty has been the middle school principal for almost a year. While there is no change in his title, it would be his call in case weather or other circumstances force a school delay or closing.
Ferrell is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in Branch and Calhoun Counties. The Branch County charges center around his alleged sexual relations with a female student at Quincy and they include two first degree counts.
A number of community members have made accusations that teachers and administrators ignored warnings about Farrell long before he was arrested.
