COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners formally approved an increase in Commissioner compensation for the next four years on Tuesday.
Under state law, the pay for Commissioners has to be set for four years without any changes since terms have increased from two years.
Branch County Administrator Bud Norman proposed in a power point presentation during last week’s work session that the annual compensation be increased by $1,000 for each of the five Commissioners.
Per diem pay would also go up.
Commissioner Tom Mathew felt the annual compensation should be at least $12,000 since they do a lot of county work at home.
Commissioner Jon Houtz felt Norman’s proposal was fair.
Commission Chair Tim Stoll agreed with Houtz and added it’s been a long time since this issue has been addressed.
Commissioners would not receive any benefits under the proposal that was approved.
