BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The firearms deer hunting season for 2024 got underway in the State of Michigan on Friday morning.
The Michigan D.N.R. reports there were 274,055 total deer kills during the firearms season in 2023 which was a nine percent decrease from the previous year.
Branch County hunters bagged 2,385 deer which was 21st in the state. Of those killed, 1,367 were antlered while 1,018 were antlerless.
Outdoors reporter Mike Avery says there are not as many hunters these days.
Avery says hunters are the main method of white tail deer management in Michigan.
Firearms deer season ends November 30. Hunters are reminded they have to attach a paper kill tag and to report their harvested deer within 72 hours.
