COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A rural Coldwater man has been charged with assault by strangulation following an alleged physical domestic dispute last Friday in Bethel Township.
Bond for 35-year-old Kurtis James Burns has been set at $100,000 following an arraignment on Thursday in Branch County District Court.
A probable cause conference was scheduled for May 18, 2017 with a preliminary exam May 24.
According to court documents, Michigan State Police reported the alleged victim was grabbed by the throat. Troopers say she had a bruised throat and broken dentures after getting punched in the mouth. She also claimed there were four prior assaults.
According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, Burns has previous convictions for attempted second degree home invasion in 1999 out of Hillsdale County and for unlawfully driving away an automobile in Branch County in 2012. He was released from prison last December.
