COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Administrator Bud Norman reported to the County Commissioners during their work session on Thursday afternoon the county’s 2025 General Fund budget is balanced.
Norman is retiring at the end of the year and he said it was the first time in 18 years he’s been on the job that the county has not had to dip into such items as its fund balance in order to balance the budget.
Norman told the Commissioners in September that the first draft of the county’s proposed general fund budget showed a deficit of about $3 million.
He showed during a power point presentation how the budget deficit has been trimmed to zero.
ARPA funds, Opioid settlement money and increased revenue led to the balanced budget.
The proposed General Fund budget is about $17-and-a-half million while the Special Funds budget comes in at $59-point-6 million.
Commissioners will formally approve the budgets next month.
