Frederick “Fred” L. Wood, 74, of Coldwater, Michigan passed away peacefully Friday, November 29, 2024 at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola, Indiana.
In keeping with Fred’s wishes, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Fred was born on March 28, 1950, to Paul and Betty (Holmes) Wood in Adrian, Michigan. September 23, 1983, he married Donna B. Farber in Coldwater, Michigan, and began a wonderful life together.
Fred earned his law degree from Cooley Law School in 1976 and worked as a prosecuting attorney in Jackson, Livingston, and Branch counties before being elected Probate Judge in 1989. He went on to serve as the Branch County Probate Judge until his retirement in 2012.
He was deeply dedicated to his work and took great pride in serving his community.
Outside of his professional life, Fred enjoyed golfing, taking care of his yard, and spending time with his friends and loved ones. He loved both quiet evenings and lively gatherings with his children and grandchildren.
His kind heart and quick wit will always be remembered by those who loved him.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his son Cory (Anna) Wood of Portsmouth, Rhode Island; his daughter Jennifer (Joe) Allore and grandchildren Matthew, Jaime, and Lizzy Allore Mundelein, IL; his son Christopher (Alisha Champagne) Wood and grandchildren Luke and Liam Gauthier of Flint Township, MI; his siblings Bob (Theresa) Wood and Wendy Wood; and many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Paulette Bethuram.
Fred’s stories and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
