SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 29-year-old Vicksburg man on several felony charges after a 10-year-old child was struck by a vehicle and killed on Monday morning south of Nottawa.
Deputies say the suspect was going west on Banker Street near Balk Road at about 8:00 a.m. when the youngster was struck.
The Sheriff’s Department has not released the gender of the child who was killed. Deputies say they had received a report that several children had been hit.
Lifesaving measures on the ten-year-old were not successful and the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the suspect told them that he did not see the children in time. No names have been released. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
