COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Township Supervisor Don Rogers says the township has been awarded a state grant of over $281,000 from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy for the APEX/Coldwater River Solar project.
According to a statement from Rogers, the grant is in response to the Renewables Ready Communities Award which uses state funds to reward energy adopters in the State of Michigan.
Rogers went on to say, “Even though the State of Michigan has taken away local control over permitting, review and siting of renewable energy products, we worked closely with APEX/Coldwater River Solar to follow our local solar ordinances. This allowed the township to have complete overview over all phases of this project.”
The project is bordered by Fenn Road to the north, Central Road to the south, Fillmore Road to the east and South Behnke Road to the west.
The company says the 150 megawatt project will generate enough clean energy to power about 27,000 homes annually.
