School officials decided to cancel on Wednesday night. The Coldwater, Quincy and Bronson school districts held classes as scheduled.
Widespread, heavy snow and a sharp drop in temperatures caused schools across the region to cancel classes for Thursday.
Lake-effect snow along with steady winds near 20 mph and gusts of 30 to 50 mph are expected create whiteout conditions at times. Those winds will help the snow skip the lakeshore and accumulate further inland.
Branch, Calhoun and Steuben Counties remain under a Winter Weather Advisory while a Winter Storm Warning is still in effect for St. Joseph and Kalamazoo Counties until 1:00 a.m. Friday morning.
