COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The H. & C. Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater will hold a grand re-opening event Thursday after a major renovation of the facility. The open house is open to the public and will include tours of the re-designed building and light refreshments.
Attendees will get an opportunity to see the new activity spaces and learn about events and activities available at the Burnside Center. The open house will run from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. WTVB’s Ken Delaney will broadcast from the event from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
“We are so proud of the activities and services we offer, and now we have a building equipped to handle the needs of the growing senior population in our community,” said Amy Duff, executive director of the Branch County Commission on Aging. “For the last 15 years, the Burnside Center has become a place for Branch County seniors to come and spend time socializing, learning, volunteering, and getting the services they need. With recent renovations to the building, seniors age 50 and over are now able to do that and more with ease!”
The building was built in 1990 for the Grahl Furniture Company. The Commission on Aging purchased the property to become a senior center and opened in 2002. During this renovation, changes to the layout of the building have allowed for more usable space for activities. Energy efficiency was improved through HVAC replacement, lighting replacement, and window replacement. All aspects of technology were replaced to allow activity offerings to continue to grow. Safety was improved with better access to handicapped parking and by replacing flooring and removing trip hazards.
