COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Cheryl Stechschulte was named the Republican of the Year on Friday night during the Branch County Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Day dinner at the Dearth Center.
Stechschulte has served as the secretary for the Branch County Republicans since 2014. She was honored for her many hours of work and commitment during various party activities.
State House Speaker Tom Leonard, Congressman Tim Walberg, State Senator Mike Shirkey and State Representative Eric Leutheuser all delivered remarks.
While 2017 is an off year for elections and Republicans are still in a good mood over the results of last Novembers election, those who attended Friday nights dinner were reminded 2018 is going to be a tough and challenging year for the GOP.
Not only is the party facing the mid term elections with Donald Trump in the White House, Republican Rick Snyder will be leaving the Michigan governor’s office.
Past history has shown the party leaving that office because of term limits usually loses in the next election.
