COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A black Labrador retriever named Archie recently made his debut as the new Coldwater High School therapy dog.
Archie is under the care of high school psychologist Annie Wulliman and will be a part of the new Emotional Support K9 Program at CHS.
Officials say this program is designed to assist with students’ well-being using a specially trained dog.
Archie has completed training at Magnum K9 in Sturgis and was chosen for the program because of his gentle, calm and friendly nature.
Archie will be introduced over the next several weeks as part of a gradual schedule as he adjusts to his role at Coldwater High School. Eventually, he will join the school daily.
He will spend time offering emotional support to our students. While he is working at the school, the Qualls family will be housing Archie in the evenings.
Ongoing support is needed to keep this program in the school. Those who want to help can find the Amazon list for Archie the Therapy Dog, which has items like treats, toys, and grooming supplies.
The program was made possible by $2,000 raised by students and staff plus $5,000 from Coldwater Community Schools.
