COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School Principal Steve Hope says that contrary to local social media posts, there were no backed up or broken sewage lines at the school at any time on Thursday.
He says in a letter to parents and guardians that was posted on the school’s Facebook page that the science rooms all have a floor drain system to carry water that may make its way to the floor from experiments, overflowing sinks, safety showers and routine mopping.
Hope stated these drain lines sit dormant for much of the time and fill with such items as hair, dust, litter, pens and pencils.
A heating unit malfunction sent gallons of water into the floor drain system, resulting in odors from those floor drains.
Hope says plumbers cleaned the drain lines Thursday evening and they will be back to perform further maintenance adding they do not expect any issues while this work is completed.
