QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – A special meeting of the Quincy Board of Education has been scheduled for Thursday night to address the recent arrest of a former teacher in the district who was recently charged with having an alleged sexual relationship with a female student.
The meeting will be held in the Commons Area at Jennings Elementary School starting at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting is designed to be a forum in which concerns can be expressed to board members and administrators.
A letter sent out to community members from Superintendent Craig Artist states that this is a wound that will not be quickly healed. It went to say, “no school district wants a child abused in any manner. Quincy is no different. This is deeply troubling.”
The letter added that steps are being taken to ensure something like this never happens again. Former Quincy school teacher Jason Farrell is facing six charges of criminal sexual conduct including two first degree counts.
The 43-year-old Farrell was employed by the Quincy School District for 20 years. He resigned last January on the same day the district placed him on leave in connection with the allegations of improper conduct.
