COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – As the calendar year winds down, so do the terms of some elected officials and even the Branch County Administrator.
Longtime Administrator Bud Norman attended his last Branch County Board of Commissioners meeting yesterday afternoon. He is retiring at the end of the year after almost 19 years in the post.
Former Meridian Township Manager Frank Walsh will be the next Branch County Administrator. Walsh resigned as Meridian Township manager, but was retained by the township as a consultant through the end of this year.
There were 38 applications submitted for the Branch County Administrator position.
Commissioner Tom Matthew also attended his last meeting. Matthew didn’t run for reelection, instead opting to run for the 35th District State House seat. He lost in that bid. He is being replaced on the county board by Rick Hollister.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack was also at the meeting and said while it has “been a challenge at times,” he thanked commissioners for helping him accomplish most of the goals he set for himself when taking office. Pollack decided not to run for reelection this year. Current Jail Administrator Fred Blakenship won the Republican primary in August and will be taking over the position January 1.
