COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal varsity basketball teams returned to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Tuesday for Parents Night and earned a pair of victories against the Gull Lake Blue Devils.
The Cardinal boys led 10-8 after the first quarter, expanded the lead to 24-17 at halftime, and finished with a 60-45 win.
Ayden Dirschell led all scorers with 15 points and 3 steals. Austin Downs made his season debut and added 14. Gavin Taylor had 11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals, while Niko Downs had 9 points, 4 boards, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Jackson Reilly had a team-high 5 rebounds as Coldwater improved to 4-3 on the season.
Gull Lake fell to 1-5; Gavin Markucki led the Blue Devils with 11 points, while Carson Grant added 10.

In a rematch of last season’s Division 1 District Final, the Lady Cardinals got past the Blue Devils 35-24. Coldwater led 8-4 after the first quarter and 21-9 at halftime as they improved to 3-1.
Elli Foley had a team-high 11 points, while Audrina Bucklin added 8 points off the bench. Coley Burkhardt pulled down 6 rebounds, and Rylie VanAken dished out 7 assists.
No Gull Lake player reached double digits as they dropped to 1-3; Addi Woodrow led the team with 8 points.

Coldwater lost the JV girls game 46-17.
The Cardinals return to Interstate 8 action Thursday night at home against Pennfield.
