COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The family of late musician and business owner Jim Stout is proposing a bandshell that would be located in Coldwater’s Heritage Park.
Stout’s widow and two stepdaughters Monday were given permission by the Coldwater City Council to proceed with a design on a slope along North Shore Drive at Bishop Avenue. That location is near where the city moved the summer “Entertainment Under the Stars” concerts.
They are proposing a 30-foot by 40-foot covered stage with storage in the back and a path for vehicles loading equipment that would run behind the stage.
Spectator seating would be on the slope.
With the go ahead from the city council this week, the family will begin working on a final design and cost estimates and bring it back to the council.
Stout passed away in July 2022 at the age of 71 following a series of health issues.
He most recently had performed as part of the the Jim Stout Band which was formed in 2006. The band, which included Stout, his wife Laurie and Peter Fair, offered an eclectic mix of folk, bluegrass, classic country & classic rock.
The band was a favorite act at many local live music performances over the years including Coldwater’s “Entertainment Under the Stars”.
They were the first act to perform at Heritage Park in August 2020 after the shows were moved away from the noise and traffic of downtown Coldwater.
