QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school soccer, Quincy suffered their first loss of the season Thursday as they were beaten by Jonesville 2-1. Jonesville scored off a corner kick with 12 minutes left in the first half to grab a 1-0 lead. The Comets made it 2-0 15 minutes into the second half.
Quincy got on the board with a Hannah Kaser goal with five minutes left but the Orioles could not come up with the tying goal. Quincy out shot Jonesville 15- 6.
The Orioles are 4-1-1 and will play at Coldwater Saturday afternoon in the annual Battle of the Birds. It will also be Youth Soccer Day, with any child wearing a soccer jersey admitted free.
Boys Golf—
Coldwater had an interesting day on Thursday regarding the Varsity golf team as they played 18 holes in the Gull Lake Invitational at Bedford Valley Golf Course and then traveled to the Riverside Golf Course to play in the first Interstate 8 Jamboree of the season.
At Bedford Valley, Coldwater finished seventh out of 15 teams with a team score of 344. Coldwater was led by Cam Ruge who celebrated his birthday with a 75. That was good enough for a fifth place finish. Alec Keplinger shot an 84, Austin Butler had a 92, Cam Bopp carded a 93 and Tanner Bowers rounded out Coldwater’s scoring with a 95 in the blustery conditions.
Coldwater then played in the I – 8 Jamboree and finished second in their first event of the season. Ruge and Keplinger each carded 39’s, Bopp shot a 40, Tanner Bowers had a 41 and Austin Butler carded a 55. Lumen Christi won the event with a team score of 148 followed by Coldwater’s 159 and Marshall with a 164.

Coldwater won their second straight conference match as they defeated Jackson Northwest 8-0. The Cardinals are now 6-4 overall and 2-1 in the Interstate 8.

Marshall won both the boys and girls meets on Thursday at the Union City Middle School Invitational. Union City was fifth in the boys meet while Quincy was eighth and Bronson was 12th. Bronson was sixth in the girls meet while Quincy was seventh and Union City was ninth.
