Janice A. Erts, 78, of Sturgis passed away peacefully Monday, December 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Aaron Chittick.
The interment will take place Monday, December 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Janice was born October 23, 1946 to Marvin and Lorraine (Christenson) Schimke in Manistee, MI. She spent her early days in Chief, MI and California, before moving to Coldwater, eventually graduating from CHS, class of 1964.
She married the love of her life, David A. Erts. at St. Paul’s in Coldwater, MI June 25, 1966. He preceded her in death August 3, 2024. They were mostly life-long residents of Coldwater, besides living in Marshall in the early 70’s, and living on Grey Lake in Sturgis since 2018.
Over the years, Janice worked for Kiess Jewelry, Branch’s Department Store, Quality Inn, and the pediatric office in Coldwater, MI.
Janice was a devout Christian who joyfully served and made banners for her church. Besides enjoying various arts and crafts, she was a gifted cook, especially when it came to Christmas candies and baking. Janice cherished her family and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
She was a devoted wife and mom, who made sure that her children got to after-school lessons, practices, games and recitals, often with homemade snacks for all. She loved her grandchildren and numerous pets (mostly dogs), just as fiercely.
Janice is survived by her children, Nancy (Gary) Misner of Lowell, MI, Matthew (Tina) Erts of Bear Lake, MI, Stephen (Rheta) Erts of Sturgis, MI; her grandchildren Evan (Sydnee Maxey) Erts, Rachel (Noah) Dunsmore, Elise (Ike Heeren) Misner, Kirstin Erts (Griffin Campbell), Ansel Erts; and great granddaughter Eleanor “Ellie” Dunsmore.
