COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A 63-year-old Coldwater man has died from his injuries at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning on Michigan Avenue north of U.S. 12.
Coldwater Director of Public Safety Joe Scheid says Charles Edward Ward passed away and that an autopsy was performed on Thursday morning. Police are awaiting the results.
Coldwater Police were dispatched at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday morning. It was determined by police that Ward was attempting to cross Michigan Avenue when he was struck by a 2016 Ford Fusion which was driven by a 24-year-old Coldwater woman whose name was not released.
The Coldwater Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance responded to the scene to treat Ward.
LifeCare Ambulance took him to Insight Hospital and Medical Center in Coldwater. Ward was later transferred to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne where he died from his injuries.
A traffic crash reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police assisted Coldwater Police and the case is currently under investigation.

To the ward family of Charles Edward ward sorry for your lost and Charles was a good man he got killed on Wednesday when riding his bike across the road to all bike riders please be careful when riding your bike across the road and please look both ways when crossing any road Charles ward was my cousin and it was sad to find out he pass away on Wednesday Jan 8 2025 we all love you the ward family and be safe out there

He was my brother and I need to find out what her name is that hit him like he was nothing to her and most likely texting on her phone she needs to do time for killing my brother and lose her driver’s license for life and never get them back
