COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked on Monday to take action on a proposed draft ordinance that would deal with Coldwater BPU customers who do not pay their utility bills.
The ordinance would lien the property of those with delinquent utility charges.
The Coldwater BPU Board approved the draft ordinance during their meeting last Tuesday.
BPU Director Paul Beckhusen says unlike a for-profit utility, financial write-offs at the BPU are not absorbed or offset by profits.
He also points out these losses are ultimately paid for by the other customers.
