BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The wintry weather that hit Michigan on Friday didn’t stop the Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams from traveling to Harper Creek High School and earning a sweep against the Beavers.
The Lady Cardinals used a 21-5 third quarter advantage to help turn a slim 22-20 halftime lead into a comfortable 55-33 victory in the opener.
Mya Porter led all scorers with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Elli Foley and Marie Powers each had 12 points, 7 boards, and a block; Foley also had 6 assists and 4 steals.
Coldwater improved to 7-3 overall, 4-0 in the Interstate 8. They are tied with Parma Western atop the league standings after the Panthers defeated previously unbeaten Marshall 49-36. Coldwater will host Western next Tuesday with first place on the line.
The Beavers fell to 3-6 overall, 1-4 in the Interstate 8. Ella Chantrenne and Paije Dickenson had 8 points apiece to lead the team.

The Cardinal boys knocked off Harper Creek in the nightcap 61-56 and handed the Beavers just their second loss of the season.
All five Coldwater starters scored in double digits; Ayden Dirschell led the way with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Austin Downs had 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists, while Gavin Taylor had 11 points, 2 boards, and 8 assists. Niko Downs and Jackson Reilly had 10 points and 4 rebounds apiece.
Coldwater improved to 6-6 overall, 3-1 in the Interstate 8. With Parma Western knocking off Marshall 52-49, the Cardinals and Redhawks are tied atop the league standings. Coldwater travels to Western on Tuesday and hosts Marshall next Friday on Hall of Fame Night.
Harper Creek’s Tre’Quon Cotton led all scorers with 22 points, while Braxton Liss added 13. The Beavers fell to 8-2 overall, 3-2 in the Interstate 8, just one game behind the co-leaders.
